Junior Fellowships

The American Institute of Bangladesh Studies awards grants of six to twelve months duration for junior research fellowships in Bangladesh, funded by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs through the Council of American Overseas Research Centers. Due to grant restrictions, grantees must be United States citizens. The financial benefits of the grant includes per diem expenses and round trip transportation to Bangladesh.

Eligibility requirements:

  • are an Individual Member of AIBS (click here for membership information),
  • currently in the ABD phase of your Ph.D. program,
  • are in the data collection and writing stage of the dissertation, and
  • are a United States citizen.

Fellowships will be equivalent to $920 per month and economy Round-Trip Air Transportation will be provided via the most direct route and using the Bangladesh carrier whenever possible.

Please note that all applications require a $25 processing fee. Awarding a grant to a student from a US institution that is a member of the AIBS will incur no additional fees but for submissions from non-represented institutions there is a $250 membership fee to be paid before an award can be dispersed.
