US Citizen Fellowships
AIBS supports three types of Fellowships:
All applicants must be:
- Enrolled/employed at a US academic institution, and
- US Citizens (Sorry, US Permanent Residents are not eligible)
Please visit specific fellowship webpages above for additional fellowship specific requirements.
All fellowships are for research involving Bangladesh and must be a minimum of two months, but no longer than twelve months pending available funding. These grants are supported by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs through the Council of American Overseas Research Centers. Scholars from all academic disciplines are eligible.
All fellowship travel is subject to State Department travel restrictions. Due to potential security concerns in Bangladesh, junior and pre-dissertation scholars must carry out research in a country other than Bangladesh or the US, subject to available funding. Senior scholars may propose travel to Bangladesh, but travel may be suspended or adjusted subject to the approval of AIBS and the current security situation in Bangladesh at the time of travel.
Fellowships may begin as soon as December 15, 2016, but must be complete by September 30, 2019.
Please note that all applications require a $25 processing fee. Once you complete your application, please send a check payable to “American Institute of Bangladesh Studies” to:
B488 Medical Sciences Center
1300 University Avenue
Madison, WI 53706
Senior Fellowship applications from AIBS member institutions in the US will incur no additional fees; applications from non-member institutions require submission of a $250 membership fee before an award will be dispersed. These fees do not apply to Junior and Pre-Dissertation applicants.
All awardees must be an AIBS individual member prior to commencing the fellowship. Individual membership costs $25 annually.
Application Procedure: Applications must be submitted via the AIBS online application package by clicking here.
The application will include:
- Narrative proposal (10 page maximum),
- Curriculum Vitae (2 page maximum), and
- Three letters of reference
- Pre-doctoral applications must also submit a transcript and a letter from their dissertation advisor (This letter can be one of the three letters of reference).
The deadline to submit an application for an AIBS fellowship for this year has passed.
Please check with us next summer for next year's announcement.
